Easy Setup and Transformer Operation
Designed for easy use, the Santa Fe train set features a powerful maintenance-free motor and upgraded valve and drive rod assembly. For immediate operation, it comes with a safe and powerful CW-80 transformer to control forward, reverse, and neutral operation. The eight curved and four straight FasTrack track pieces fits together to create a 40-by-60-inch oval. When you're done, they pack up quickly and easily for storage.
Puffing Smoke and Life-Like Details
This die-cast steam locomotive train is highly detailed with retro styling, bright colors, fireman and engineer figures affixed in the locomotive cab, and billboard with two images. For added interactive fun, a wood-sided reefer has opening doors and the searchlight car has an operating light with adjustable position. Realistic details like silver metal trim on the locomotive wheels and a caboose with an interior light enhance the classic look of the train. A set of 10 telephone poles makes up the heavy-duty freight that needs to get to its destination.

This is a very good starter step that will get you going. There are two things to beware of though - 1) the instruction booklet describes features that are not on this train, but are on others. This can be frustrating as you try to figure out why it isn't working. Just note that it isn't working because this engine doesn't have the feature and it is not dysfunctional. 2) The smoke from the engine takes a bit of time to get going about 20 times around the track, but once it does it is pretty cool.
Great set up and would recommend!

I received my train in perfect timing on Christmas eve morning via "last minute" shipping. Everything was packed tight, secure, and neatly. I ordered this train to replace my previous Lionel set I had received when I was quite younger as I had lost only the engine to that set, rendering it useless. I was amazed with the quality of this set, every little detail looks realistic and meticulously detailed. When comparing to my brother's old Lionel New York Central Flyer from the 80's/90's, this set has significantly more detail and weighs a considerable amount (which is good seeing that they at least still make die-cast models). The new 0 gauge track and controller with built in transformer are major improvements over my older track and controller set up.. All the cars in this set are detailed as well as including lights in the caboose and flatbed car. I was however under the impression the light would light up on the rear of the tender car, only to be later disappointed that it did not (although this is by no means a big deal, and should certainly not influence decisions). The one thing that really did irk me when opening the set though is that the new box packaging has a rather inconvenient design with train cars on one side and track on the other which will prove to be more difficult to take out and put away each Christmas compared to the original packaging of older Lionel sets. Overall this set has no major complaints and is an exceptionally crafted and detailed set you or your child should not miss out on and will lead to hours of chugging along!
