By the late 1830s fast, elegant engines like the Norris 4-2-0 were available in several standard sizes suitable for the needs of any railroad. The Pegasus was built in 1839 for the Baltimore and Ohio's line between Baltimore and Washington D.C. racing along the first link in what would become the Northeast Corridor. The Pegasus earned its name, for Charles Dickens said of a sister Norris engine that if it had spread wings and flew away, no one would have been the least bit surprised.

MOST DEFINITELY NOT INTENDED AS A TOY! Bought this to include as part of a collection of model trains I display. It is one of the few trains available that depicts early railroading. Bachmann had many other early trains available but have since discontinued them. Hope they decide to reissue them in the future. This is very detailed and very delicate. Definitely not a toy for children's use, but a most worthwhile addition to any true model railroad enthusiast's collection!

We did not buy this train as a toy. Rather, we used it as part of a Christmas scene. It was just lovely. My husband has wanted a miniature train for a long time. Since we did a little remodeling, we now have the space for it during the holidays. We are looking forward to expanding our village and our train collection. Thank you!
